TOPEKA, KAN. - Sioux Falls Softball closed out the final day of the Washburn Invite with a 10-2 win over Newman University in 6-innings and a tough 6-9 loss to Emporia State.
GAME 1 - NEWMAN
Three Cougars paved the way in game one going 3-for-4 behind Hannah Fry, Taryn Wagner and Megan Lawson. Fry led the way with 4 RBI against the Jets followed by Lawson and Riley Schwisow with 2. Schwisow tripled in the 4th followed by a double in the 6th by Wagner.
Maddi Duncan picked up her third win of the weekend going 3-0 on the mound for USF. Duncan threw 6.0 innings with 4 strikeouts while facing 28 batters.
GAME 2 - EMPORIA STATE
Schwisow and Lawson continued to lead the Cougars at the plate in game two while Alannah Naumann joined in with 2 hits of her own. Schwisow recorded 5 RBI along with a 2-run homerun in the first and a 3-run homer in the 5th while going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Campbell Petrick started on the mound for USF while recording a strikeout in 0.2 of an inning. Bailee Lampman came in to throw for 2.1 innings while facing 12 batters and unfortunately being handed the loss. Olivia Ott, Kate Kotlarz and Duncan also made appearances throughout game two.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action next week when they take on William Jewell and Truman State before beginning their conference season at home on March 23 and 24 against Minot State and UMary.
