LIBERTY, MO. - USF Softball fell to William Jewell College in their first series of the weekend. The Cardinals took game one in an 8-inning walk-off, 5-4, and game two 6-1 over Sioux Falls.
GAME 1 - L, 5-4 (8 Innings)
Three Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Emma Barta crossed the plate on a fielding error in the first and Alannah Naumann recorded an RBI sac fly to score Taryn Wagner.
WJC answered with three runs in the bottom of the second before Riley Schwisow sent a solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the fifth to tie it up.
In extra innings, Kenzie Raymond gave the lead back to USF with a sac fly to right field to score Jayden Haley. The Cardinals would go on to win 5-4.
Wagner led the team with two hits in game one followed by numerous other Cougars with one hit.
Maddi Duncan pitched all 7.2 innings while tieing a season high 10 strikeouts in 35 batters faced.
GAME 2 - L, 6-1
William Jewell jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with two runs recorded in the first, second and third innings. Naumann crossed the plate in the fourth for the Cougars only run.
Hannah Fry led USF in game two going 2-for-3 at the plate while Naumann, Raymond and Campbell Petrick each recorded hits of their own.
Campbell Petrick started on the mound for USF, throwing 2.0 innings with one strikeout in 14 batters faced, Bailee Lampman came in on relief to close out the came with two strikeouts in 15 batters faced.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Truman State at 12pm and 2pm before beginning their conference season at home on March 23 and 24 against Minot State and UMary.
