Cougar Softball Splits in Non-Conference Finale

KIRKSVILLE, MO. - Cougar Softball split with Truman State today, taking game one 6-1 before falling in game two, 5-1.

GAME 1 - W, 6-1

USF jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first when Megan Lawson singled through the left side to score Emma Barta. Rylie Schwisow and Alannah Naumann also crossed the plat for the Coo following a throwing error by the Bulldogs.

Hannah Fry singled up the middle to score Schwisow in the top of the third before Wagner went yard in the fifth with a 2-run shot over center field.

Fry led USF at the plate going 2-for-4 while Schwisow crossed the plate twice and Wagner with two RBI.

Maddi Duncan picked up her eighth win of the season throwing 7.0 innings while racking up seven strikeouts in 27 batters faced. The sophomore currently sits with 63 strikeouts on the year with a 2.04 ERA while holding an 8-3 record.

GAME 2 - L, 5-1

Truman State scored first in the bottom of the third to take an early 3-0 lead followed by two runs in the fifth to go up 5-0. Wagner recorded her second home run of the day with a solo shot over center field.

Just three Cougars had hits in game two with Fry, Wagner and Jayden Haley each recording one hit.

Bailee Lampman got the start for the Coo, throwing 2.0 innings while facing 10 batters and recording one strikeout. Campbell Petrick came in on relief to face 10 batters in 2.0 innings before Olivia Ott came in to close out the game.

UP NEXT

The Cougars begin their conference season at home on March 23 and 24 against Minot State and UMary.
