SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Following the past weekend's performances, USF Athletics is pleased to announce Sydney Osburn as Female Athletes of the Week and Ben Serie as Male Athlete of the Week.
Osburn helped lead USF Women's Tennis to a 3-3 spring trip to Florida. In Orlando USF faced Shippensburg, #12 Angelo State, Slippery Rock, Franciscan University, Lafayette College, and Ohio Northern. Sydney went 2-2 in singles with the highlight coming against Division I opponent Lafayette. She was the only USF Tennis player to win a match against Lafayette when she defeated Alexandra Waldman 6-2, 7-5. She also went 3-1 in doubles with partner Ella Hancock. Osburn and Hancock were the only doubles pair to win against Lafayette when they won 7-5. Sydney and Ella are 6-3 overall in doubles this year and Osburn is 5-4 in singles overall.
Serie was a catalyst for USF Baseball this weekend against Minnesota Duluth. The Cougars went 2-2 against the Bulldogs with two walk-off wins. Serie played a key part at the plate and in the field. At the plate, he went 5-11 over 4 games with 5 walks. He also accounted for 4 runs scored with 2 of those coming in game 1. He tallied 4 RBI with 1 double and 2 homeruns on the weekend. In the field, he made 3 assists and 32 putouts in 35 total chances over the weekend and did not commit an error.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS
· Owen Weadge of USF Baseball put together another solid performance on the mound this weekend. He got the start in game 4 against Minnesota Duluth and threw 6.0 innings. He gave up 7 hits and only 2 runs while accumulating 3 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA.
· Taryn Wagner had a standout weekend for USF Softball. She went 4-10 through 3 games and scored a run in each game. She had 3 RBI thanks to her first 2 career homeruns. She hit homeruns in both games against Truman State and her run in game 2 against Truman was USF's only run of the game.
· Maddi Duncan also had a great weekend for USF Softball. She started two games and went 1-1. Against William Jewell she threw a season high 7.2 innings and had a season high 10 strikeouts. She gave up 8 hits and 3 earned runs. Against Truman State she picked up the win after going all 7 innings. She picked up another 7 strikeouts while only giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run. Overall for the season she is 8-3 with 10 complete games pitched. She has accumulated 70.2 innings with 63 strikeouts. Her ERA is 2.04.
· Khot Juac continued her incredible year with a second trip to an NCAA Championship. This time she competed in the Mile Run at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships where she took 11th place with a PR and School Record of 4:48.63. The placement made her the Cougars first 2nd Team All American of the Championships.
· Emily Swanson also heads home with 2nd Team All American honors after placing 9th in the Women's Pentathlon. Her 3790 points came with finishes of 5th in the 60m Hurdles, 6th in the High Jump, 9th in the Shot Put, 12th in the Long Jump, and 5th in the 800m. She also competed in the non-Pentathlon High Jump event and placed 14th.
