Cougar Softball Sweeps Beavers in Weekend Opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - USF Softball picked up another series sweep over the Bemidji State Beavers, taking game one 6-4 and game two 5-4.

GAME 1 - W, 6-4

USF scored first when a solo shot came off the bat of Riley Schwisow in the top of the first to continue her hitting streak. Schwisow brought in Madison Grant on a sac fly in the third to put the Coo up 2-0.

BSU responded with 4-runs in the forth to take a 4-2 lead before Sioux Falls followed suit with 4-runs to close out the game. Schwisow recorded her second homer of the game with a 2-run shot over the right field fence.

Megan Lawson scored pinch runner, Jayden Haley before Meghan Jochimsen scored Amber McKinney for a final score of 6-4.

Maddi Duncan picked up her 10th win for USF, throwing a complete 7.0 inning game with 5-strikeouts in 31 batters faced and 116 pitches thrown.

GAME 2 - W, 5-4

The Beavers scored first in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead before Schwisow once again got the bat hot with a single to center field to score Grant and Alannah Naumann in the third.

Grant went on to score Hannah Fry with a sac fly in the fourth while Fry recorded a double in the fifth to score Schwisow and Jochimsen in the fifth.

Bemidji responded with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh before Sioux Falls closed it out with a 5-4 victory.

Campbell Petrick got the start and the win in game two, pitching a complete 7.0 inning, 5-strikeout game in 34 batters faced and 118 pitches thrown.

OVERALL

USF came out strong and never looked back. Schwisow continues to keep the bat hot going 4-for-6 at the plate today with two homeruns and six RBI. Fry and Naumann were next with three hits apiece while Fry also recorded two RBI on the day.

Duncan and Petrick put together a nice outing with 10 strikeouts and a combined 4.50 ERA.

UP NEXT

The Cougars will host Minnesota Crookston tomorrow afternoon at the Sanford Diamonds beginning at 12pm with game two to follow.
