Cougars Close out Inaugural Season at NCWWC

Peters records first national win in program history

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - USF Women's Wrestling closes out their inaugural season at the 2024 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships today.

Freshmen Teila Peters, McKenna Hendrickson, Brinley Green and Zoe Adam wrote their names in the record books as the first wrestlers in USF Women's Wrestling history to compete at the National Championships.

Teila Peters went 1-2 on the day at 130-pounds while picking up 2.5 team points for the Coo. Peters fell to Linda Holeman of Western New England in a 2:42 pin before bouncing back with a 15-5 tech fall over Lillie Costilla of Frostburg State in the second round of the consolation bracket. Peters would go on to fall to Zoe Gress of East Stroudsburg in a 2:28 pin but picked up the first win in program history on the national stage to finish the year 23-16.

At 136-pounds, McKenna Hendrickson went 0-2 on the day, falling in round one to Estella Gutches of McKendree in a 12-1 tech fall. In round two of the consolation bracket, Hendrickson fell to Natasha Markoutsis of Aurora in a 10-0 tech fall. Hendrickson finishes 18-15 on the year.

Brinley Green went 0-2 at 143-pounds. With a bye to open the day, Green advanced to the second round of the championship bracket before falling to Aine Drury of King University in a 0:42 pin and to Saniyah Ward of D'Youville in a 5-2 decision. Green caps off her season 24-14.

At 191-pounds, Zoe Adam also received a bye in the opening round but finished the day 0-2 after falling to Sandra Guerrero of New Jersey City in a 1:57 pin and to Jada Arnold of Mount Olive in a 5:41 pin. Adam closes out her season 29-11.

Sioux Falls closed their inaugural season 6-3 in dual settings with wins over Dakota Wesleyan (2), Minot State (2), Morningside, and Augsburg. Adam claimed two open titles at the Bronco and Grand View Opens this season while Green picked up one at the Grand View Open. Throughout the season, USF outscored their opponents 261-154 in dual settings and will look to continue and grow on their success for the 2024-25 season.
