DULUTH, MINN. - USF Softball dropped two to Minnesota Duluth today. The Cougars fell 12-4 in 5-innings in game one and 7-1 in game two.
GAME 1 - L, 12-4
Sioux Falls got going in the first when Riley Schwisow stole home on a dropped ball by the catcher. The freshman shortstop struck again when she recorded a 3-run homer in the 4th to tie the game 4-4.
Megan Lawson went 2-for-2 at the plate in game two while Schwisow went 1-for-2 with a walk, a homerun and three RBI while crossing the plate twice for the Coo.
Olivia Ott got the start for USF, throwing 0.2 innings before Campbell Petrick came in on relief to throw 2.2 innings with two strikeouts in 15 batters faced. Kate Kotlarz closed out the game with 1.0 inning pitched against eight batters.
GAME 2 - L, 7-1
Duluth jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in just 2-innings before Sioux Falls forced them to five shutout innings.
USF scored in the top of the 7th when Schwisow grounded out to score Meghan Jochimsen.
Five Cougars recorded runs in game two behind Taryn Wagner, Hannah Fry, Jayden Haley, Madison Grant and Jochimsen. Wagner owned a double while Jochimsen added a triple for USF.
Maddi Duncan threw 6.0 innings with three strikeouts, seven flyouts and eight groundouts while facing 33 batters.
OVERALL
Schwisow played a part in all four runs on the day with four RBIs, two runs and two walks with a homerun and two stolen bases.
USF moves to 16-23 on the season and 7-11 in the NSIC.
UP NEXT
Sioux Falls will take on St. Cloud State tomorrow afternoon with first pitch slated for 12pm at Selke Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
