Sioux Falls, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team split with Minnesota State Mankato today. USF took game 1 5-3 on a Dane Small 2-run walk-off homerun. This win was USF's first win against MSU since 2012 and the first time Coach Hieb has defeated them in his 8 years as Head Coach. Mankato took game 2 10-4.
GAME 1 - W 5-3
Jake Ammann got the ball to start for USF and threw 6.2 strong innings. He allowed 3 hits and 3 runs while recording 1 strikeout. Garrett Oswald came on in relief and picked up the win for USF. He threw 0.1 innings while giving up 2 hits and no runs.
At the plate, the Cougars were led by Ben Serie who had 3 hits. Dane Small, Noah Christenson, and Ryan Gouldin each had 2 hits for the game. Serie scored 2 runs while Small scored 2 and drove 2 in. Brady Klehr and Zach Andreason each had 1 hit as well. Overall, USF had 11 hits, 5 RBI, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts, and 6 left on base.
GAME 2 - L 10-4
Jake Pruchniak got the start in game 2 for USF and went 2.1 innings. He gave up 5 hits and 5 earned runs while also recording 3 strikeouts. The Cougars used 6 pitchers after Pruchniak. Derek Lundgren threw 1.0 inning and gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits. Zachary Shastay, Grayson Skinner, Dylan Immel, and Tyler Maeyaert were next in line and did not give up a run in their outings. Reid Barnard finished the game off allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
At the plate, USF was led by Brady Klehr who had 3 hits. Klehr also accounted for 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Isaac Bonner tallied 2 hits for the game and also drove in 2 runs. David Swanson and Dane Small each had 1 hit with Small also scoring a run. Overall, USF had 7 hits, 3 RBI, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts, and 4 left on base.
UP NEXT
The Cougars are back in action this weekend in Bismarck, ND. They will travel to play UMary to play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:00PM and a single game on Sunday starting at 12:00PM. All games will be played at Bismarck Municipal Park.
