Sioux Falls, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team was swept by Wayne State today in a doubleheader. WSC took game 1 4-1 and game 2 12-5.
GAME 1 - L 4-1
Jake Ammann got the start in game 1 for USF and threw 5.1 innings. He allowed 9 hits and 4 earned runs while recording 2 strikeouts. Derek Lundgren came on in relief and threw 1.2 innings. He allowed 1 hit but no runs and tallied 1 strikeout.
At the plate, the Cougars were held in check by WSC's Corbin Kirk. USF had 1 hit from Dane Small which was a double in the first inning. Tyler Cate scored the lone Cougar run and Ben Serie was credited with the RBI after a sac fly. Overall, USF had 1 hit, 1 RBI, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts, and 3 left on base.
GAME 2 - L 12-5
Jake Pruchniak got the ball to start for USF in game 2 and threw 2.1 innings. He allowed 6 hits and 6 earned runs while picking up 2 strikeouts. Logan Anderson came in next out of the Cougar Bullpen and threw 2.2 innings. Anderson allowed 4 hits but only 1 earned run. Grayson Skinner was the next arm out of the USF Bullpen and went 1.2 innings. He allowed 3 hits and 2 unearned runs. Dylan Immel threw 1.1 innings after Skinner and did not allow a run while picking up 2 strikeouts. Reid Barnard finished off the game for USF. He allowed 4 hits and 3 earned runs.
At the plate, USF came to life but it was not enough to keep pace with the Wildcats. Tyler Cate, Dane Small, and Brady Klehr each had 2 hits for the game. Cate scored 2 runs, Small scored a run and drove a run in, and Klehr had 1 RBI. David Swanson and Ben Serie each had 1 hit. Swanson and Serie both scored runs and Serie also drove 1 in. Overall, USF had 8 hits, 4 RBI, 3 walks, 4 strikeouts, and 3 left on base.
UP NEXT
The Cougars are back in action this Saturday in Sioux Falls. USF will host Winona State on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, USF will honor the 1982 Baseball team that was inducted into the USF Athletics Hall of Fame this past fall. That day's games will begin at 1:30PM with recognition of the 1982 team before first pitch. On Sunday, USF will honor their seniors on Senior Day starting at 12:00PM.
