Cougar Softball Falls to Mavericks in Midweek Matchup

MANKATO, MINN. - USF Softball fell in a midweek road matchup against Minnesota State Mankato today, 9-1 and 10-5.

GAME 1 - L, 9-1 (5 INNINGS)

The Cougars lone run came off the bat of the Megan Lawson when she scored Riley Schwisow on a ground out to the short stop.

USF produced five hits throughout game one while leaving four runners on base. Alannah Naumann recorded two hits for the Coo while Schwisow, Damaris Cuevas and Hannah Fry each recorded one.

Campbell Petrick pitched 4.0 innings while facing 22 batters and giving up four earned runs to move to 3-4 on the year.

GAME 2 - L, 10-5

The Cougars found themselves down 5-0 before responding with five runs throughout the fourth and fifth innings.

Meghan Jochimsen singled to center field to put USF on the board first while Lawson crossed the plate in the top of the fourth.

Emma Barta knocked in Madison Grant and Naumann in the fifth before Lawson added two more RBI in Schwisow and Barta to tie it up at 5 apiece.

Minnesota State responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning taking game two 10-5.

Maddi Duncan started in the circle for Sioux Falls, pitching 3.0 innings with one strikeout. Olivia Ott relieved Duncan in the fourth, throwing 2.0 innings before Kate Kotlarz pitched her second shutout performance of the season to close out the game with three strikeouts in four batters faced.

OVERALL

Lawson led the Coo at the plate today going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Barta recorded two RBI while Jochimsen recorded one for the Cougars six runs on the day. Schwisow was the lone Coo with three walks on the day, but led the team by crossing the plate twice.

All four pitches contributed today with Kotlars leading in strikeouts (3) followed by Ott with two and Duncan with one.

UP NEXT

The Cougars will return home this weekend to host Northern State on Friday at 2 & 4 pm and MSU Moorhead on Sunday at 1 & 3pm. Both doubleheaders will take place at the Sanford Diamonds.
