Sioux Falls Splits with MSU Moorhead in Wind Bowl

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Cougar Softball split with MSU Moorhead today taking game one 3-1 and falling in game two 10-5 to finish the weekend 2-2.

GAME 1 - W, 3-1

Moorhead struck first in game one with a run in the top of the third to take an early 1-0 lead before the Coo got hot in the 5th when Riley Schwisow scored Emma Barta on a sac fly to right field. With the 30 mph wind in her favor, Barta went on to break the tied ball game in the 6th with a two RBI single to second base to give USF a 3-1 victory.

Maddi Duncan picked up her 11th win in the circle, throwing 7.0 innings with three strikeouts, 13 ground outs and four flyouts in 28 batters faced.

GAME 2 - L, 10-5

MSUM came out strong in game two with seven runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second to take an early 9-0 lead.

Taryn Wagner put USF on the board in the second after scoring on a wild pitch, but it was the 3rd inning when the Coo's bats came alive. Damaris Cuevas doubled to center field to score Amber McKinney and Alannah Naumann and pinch runner Kenzie Raymond scored from second on an error by the first baseman to close the Dragons lead to 10-4.

Naumann scored again in the bottom of the 7th on a fielders choice to shortstop to give USF the final score of 10-5.

Kate Kotlarz started in the circle before being relieved by Campbell Petrick, the two faced 14 batters in 1.1 innings until left-handed pitcher Olivia Ott closed out the game. Ott gave up just one run in 24 batters faced forcing six ground outs and nine flyouts.

OVERALL

Naumann and McKinney led the Coo at the plate each crossing the plate twice on the day. Naumann went 4-for-6 on the day with a triple and one stolen base while McKinney went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Cuevas, Barta and Schwisow recorded all six RBI on the day while Schwisow and Cuevas also recorded both doubles for USF.

Duncan and Ott led Sioux Falls in the circle while Duncan boasted a 0.00 ERA and Ott a 1.59 ERA. The two forced four strikeouts on the day while throwing for a combined 12.2 innings.
