Sioux Falls, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Baseball team picked up 2 wins today. They swept a doubleheader against Bemidji State. USF won game 1 22-5 and game 2 9-0. USF held Bemidji scoreless in 3 out of 4 games this series to sweep the Beavers.
GAME 1 - W 22-5
Brady Baur started on the mound for USF in game 1 and went 5 innings. He gave up only 1 hit and did not let in a run. He also picked up 5 strikeouts. Zachary Shastay came on in relief and threw a scoreless inning. Reid Barnard came in next and gave up 3 earned runs before Ashton Pick came in to finish the game. Pick gave up 2 earned runs and picked up a strikeout.
At the plate, USF was on fire from the jump. Led by Zach Andreason who had 4 hits on the day along with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Tyler Cate, David Swanson, and Ben Serie each had 3 hits. Mitch Iliff, Ryan Gouldin, and Isaac Bonner each had 2 hits as well. Serie led the way with 5 USF RBI. Swanson led USF runs scored as he crossed the plate 5 times. Overall, USF had 22 hits, 22 RBI, 9 walks, 2 strikeouts, and 8 left on base.
GAME 2 - W 9-0
Owen Weadge started on the mound for USF and came away with the win in game 2. He went 6.0 innings and did not allow a run. He allowed 1 hit and 3 walks while picking up 9 strikeouts. The Cougar Bullpen was strong in relief as well, not giving up a run all game. Mason Leonard was first out of the Bullpen and did not allow a run while recording a strikeout. Garrett Oswald gave up 1 hit and recorded a walk in his scoreless inning of work. Logan Anderson finished off the game in style by not allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.
At the plate, USF was led by Dane Small, Brady Klehr, and Mitch Iliff. Each player had 2 hits for the game while Small also led USF in RBI with 2. Tyler Cate, David Swanson, Ben Serie, Ryan Gouldin, and Isaac Bonner each picked up a hit in the game. Bonner had 2 RBI to tie Small for the team lead while Cate and Serie each scored 2 runs to pace the Cougars. Overall, USF had 11 hits, 9 RBI, 8 walks, 5 strikeouts, and 14 left on base.
UP NEXT
The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday. They will travel across town to take on Augustana. This mid-week doubleheader will start at 4:00PM at Ronken Field on the campus of Augustana.
