USF Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Athletic Department, along with Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jon Hart, are proud to announce the USF Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024. USF will honor Kevin Flegner '95, Taylor Varsho '16, Braden Wieking '12 and the 1997, 1998, 1999 Men's Cross Country teams. 

"This is a special group of individuals and teams who have helped transform our programs and set our standards high," stated Hart. "We look forward to celebrating and honoring their achievements during Cougar Days in the fall." 

Athletes 

Kevin Flegner graduated from USF in 1995 with a bachelor's in elementary education and a minor in coaching while being a key member of the men's basketball program from 1993-1995. The two-time All-SDIC athlete set the USF season record with 761 points during the 1994-95 season that still stands today. Throughout his career, he recorded 1,172 points with 279 assists. Following graduation, Flegner went on to obtain his master's in educational leadership from Marian College in 2004 and is currently an athletic director at Fond du Lac High School in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where he resides with his wife of 30 years, Cyndie, and their three daughters, Kaylee, Jenna and Brooke. 

Taylor Varsho graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's in elementary education and special education and was a vital player for the women's basketball team from 2014-2016. Varsho currently sits amongst the top-10 in USF history with 1,379 career points. In 2016, she helped lead USF to their first NCAA Tournament berth in program history as well as an NSIC Tournament Championship. The NSIC Player of the Year accumulated multiple all-conference awards including first team honors, NSIC All-Defensive Team, NSIC Tournament MVP and the NSIC South Division Player of the Year. Following her time with USF, Varsho has been a high school basketball coach, worked in the special education department, and has received her master's in administration. She now lives in Marshfield, Wisconsin with boyfriend Nate and dog, Albert, where she is a health teacher at Marshfield Middle School. 

Braden Wieking graduated in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. The All-American place kicker is the second leading scorer in USF Football history with 393 career points and sits a top of the kicking charts with 52 made field goals and 237 extra points. Wieking earned numerous awards for his efforts both on and off the field including All-NSIC honors, Don Hansen All-Region, Don Hansen All-American, BSN All-American and the Fred Mitchell Award. He also was named to the Allstate Good Hands Team for his involvement outside of athletics. Wieking holds the record for the longest field goal in USF history at 54-yards. Following his successful career at USF, Wieking worked at Scheels before transferring to their corporate office in North Dakota where he works as a buyer. He currently resides in West Fargo with his wife Kayla and their daughter Rollyns. 

Team 

1997, 1998 and 1999 Men's Cross Country 

Under the leadership of USF Hall of Fame Coach Rich Greeno, the 1997-99 University of Sioux Falls Men's Cross Country Teams secured three consecutive conference championships. The program had won five conference titles over seven seasons with the highlight of the three-peat being the only time Sioux Falls has done so in program history. 

1997 Team Members: Johnathon Glasser, Tracy Hellman, Mike McDaniel, Ryan Schmidt, Matt VanDyken, Clint Wagner and Torry Zeller. 

1998 Team Members: Chris Cox, Troy Engel, Brian Lowery, Jake Merriman, Adam Nyback, Dustin Peterson, Aaron Presley, Ryan Schmidt, Nick Strasser, Clint Wagner and Torry Zeller.  

1999 Team Members: Chris Cox, Troy Engel, Matt Groff, Ryan LeMasters, Brian Lowery, Dustin Peterson, Scott Stesney, Nick Strasser, Clint Wagner, Dan Wiltgen and Torry Zeller. 

All three men's cross country teams were led by Coach Rich Greeno+.
