SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls will participate in the 13th annual "It's A Slam Dunk, Don't Drive Drunk" campaign on Saturday, February 1, as the Cougars host Southwest Minnesota State in an NSIC doubleheader. The men's game is set for 3:30 p.m., followed by the women's game at 5:30 p.m. at the Stewart Center.
The campaign was launched in 2013 to honor the memory of Drake Bigler, the five-month-old son of SMSU head men's basketball coach Brad Bigler, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver in 2012. Each year, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and its Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) work to spread awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and encourage safe, responsible decisions.
During Thursday's games, fans will have the opportunity to take the pledge to not drive drunk. The South Dakota Highway Patrol will also be present to support the campaign, and there will be halftime activities dedicated to promoting safe and responsible choices.
USF and the NSIC encourage all fans to join in this important effort and to always make responsible decisions behind the wheel.
