HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless opening half, the Cougars found their rhythm in the second frame. Mara Parker broke through in the 70th minute, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Mariah Siem. Just five minutes later, Emma Duerr doubled the advantage, finishing in the 75th minute to seal the 2–0 victory for Sioux Falls.
In total, the Cougars outshot the Jimmies 21–6 and held an 8–4 edge in shots on goal while forcing six corner opportunities. Jost finished the match with four saves to secure the shutout.
After the win, head coach Joe DeMay praised the team's collective effort and the impact of players off the bench:
"We talk a lot about embracing roles to maximize the one you have and to do the work to change them if you want a different one. It's why we call the players who don't open the match game changers because their role is come off the bench and make a difference when we need it.
Today was 100 percent a game changers game with Mara and Emma coming on in the second half to give us the lead and then extend it. Olivia doesn't show up on the scoresheet but also came in to give us a boost in midfield, which is huge with Chloe and Kate M logging so many minutes over the season.
We also have to be sure to acknowledge Morgan, the backline and the whole team's commitment to defending. Another clean sheet, another three points for us to take into next week and go for more."
