10/29/2025 2:42:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Soccer team hits the road for its final weekend away from home, traveling to face Concordia-St. Paul on Friday at 7 p.m. at Sea Foam Stadium and Winona State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium. With three regular season matches remaining, the Cougars (6-7-2, 4-6-2 NSIC) continue to chase an NSIC Tournament berth and look to build on a strong fall that's already seen a program-record six wins at the Division II level.

Friday's matchup against the Golden Bears (9-3-3, 6-3-3 NSIC) opens a crucial stretch for USF, who will finish the regular season next Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State. Concordia-St. Paul enters the weekend riding a three-match unbeaten streak, while Winona State (5-5-4, 4-5-3 NSIC) aims to hold serve on its home field in Sunday's match.

Cougar Notes

The Cougars continue to impress offensively behind standout forward #17 Addison Van Zee, who leads the team and ranks among the NSIC's top goal scorers with eight goals on 47 shots, including three game-winners. Her breakout season has already set new program records for single-season and career goals in the DII era.

#5 Sadie Hunter has tallied three goals, while #24 Mariah Siem adds two goals and one assist to round out USF's top scorers. In total, 14 different Cougars have contributed points this fall.

Defensively, goalkeeper #30 Morgan Jost has anchored the back line with 48 saves, a 1.15 goals-against average, and four shutouts across 13 starts. The Cougars have held opponents to just 1.20 goals per game while producing five clean sheets.

As a team, USF averages 1.25 goals per game on 10.7 shots per match while posting a .506 shots-on-goal percentage. The Cougars have also earned 49 corner kicks and limited their opponents to 55 through 15 contests.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul (9-3-3, 6-3-3 NSIC)

The Golden Bears have been tough to break down defensively, conceding just 9 goals in 15 matches for a 0.60 team goals-against average. They're 2-2-1 in their last five matches taking on the other top teams in the NSIC standings.

CSP's offense runs through forward #17 Sophia Haase, who leads the team with seven goals and one assist on 54 shots. #28 Brooke Nelson and #10 Nicole Moore have added 9 and 7 points respectively, while goalkeeper #99 Sydney Potter has recorded 35 saves with a .814 save percentage and five shutouts.

As a unit, the Golden Bears have outshot their opponents 251-120 while holding a 126-51 edge in shots on goal. CSP averages 1.47 goals per match and has assisted on 16 of their 22 goals.

Scouting Winona State (5-5-4, 4-5-3 NSIC)

The Warriors have played in eight one-goal matches this season, leaning on a stingy defensive core led by goalkeeper #99 Abigail Rounds, who has logged 40 saves and three shutouts with a .678 save percentage.

Offensively, #8 Kyleigh Jannisch and #10 Madison Barnick lead the charge with five goals and four goals, while #19 Sam Perez sets up her teammates with a team high 4 assists on the season. Winona averages 1.43 goals on 13.6 shots per game but has struggled to find the back of the net recently, scoring just two times in its last four matches.

The Warriors' defensive consistency has kept them competitive, as they've allowed only 19 goals in 14 matches for a 1.36 team GAA, while their back line has contained teams to 60 shots on goal.

Coach's Corner

"At this point in the season, we have experienced a ton of growth and a lot of success in achieving many of the goals we set for ourselves back in January when we started our journey together," said head coach Joe DeMay. "Bigger than that, we have really collaborated as a group to develop the processes that help us day to day do the things that put us in a position to reach those goals.

We still have goals that we have not reached yet. We enjoyed and celebrated those we have achieved so far, but our focus is on finishing our to do list. Right now, it's about taking things one game at a time to give ourselves an opportunity to earn one extra game.

These final three matches will have a deciding influence on whether we can achieve all of our goals, but we have to take each one at a time. We know where we want to be in a few weeks' time, but we must have total focus on what's right in front of us in the moment and be present in the moment to maximize our chances of realizing our ambitions."
