SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Athletics Department and head women's soccer coach Andy Janssen have announced the hiring of John Moening as assistant coach for the Cougar women's soccer program.
Moening brings an extensive coaching background in collegiate and club soccer, with a proven track record in player development, recruiting, goalkeeper training, and championship-level program support.
"I told the team in our first meeting that I wanted to hire someone who believes in what we're building, is willing to work relentlessly, and is committed to investing in our players both on and off the field. We hit a home run with John, and I can't wait to lead this program alongside him."

Moening arrives at USF after serving as the women's assistant coach, goalkeeper coach, and recruiting coordinator at St. Olaf College since 2022, where he played a significant role in the program's resurgence. During his tenure, the Oles compiled a 45-17-11 overall record, posted back-to-back program records for wins in 2024 and 2025, and reached three MIAC Tournament semifinal appearances. The program also produced a Defensive Player of the Year, two Rookie of the Year honorees, nine all-region selections, 16 All-MIAC selections, and 21 Academic All-District honorees during his time on staff.
In his recruiting coordinator role, Moening managed all recruiting responsibilities for the women's program, building national recruiting pipelines and coordinating every stage of the recruiting process—from evaluations and communications to campus visits and relationship development.
Moening also contributed to St. Olaf's men's soccer program, helping the Oles achieve remarkable success, including consecutive MIAC regular season championships, a conference tournament title, back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, and a run to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2025.
Beyond the collegiate ranks, Moening brings extensive club and goalkeeper development experience. He currently serves as Goalkeeping Director and Assistant Coach for the Minnesota Girls Olympic Development Program and previously held leadership roles with Tonka Fusion Elite, Fusion Soccer Club, and Keliix Intra Soccer Club, helping develop numerous collegiate-level goalkeepers.
His coaching resume also includes collegiate experience at Hamline University, where he worked with both the men's and women's programs as goalkeeper coach.
"I want to sincerely thank Head Coach Andy Janssen and the entire search committee for this incredible opportunity. From our very first conversation, it was clear that Andy is building something truly special at the University of Sioux Falls. I'm excited to work alongside him, learn from his leadership, and contribute to the continued growth of this program and its student-athletes. I can't wait to get to campus, build relationships with our players, and help the Cougars compete for championships."

Moening joins a Cougar program entering a new era under Janssen's leadership, as USF looks to build on its strong foundation and compete at the top of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
