Aguirre joins USF following an outstanding prep career at Ankeny High School, where he was named Second Team All-State and First Team All-Conference. Known for his ability to score from all three levels and control the pace of play, Aguirre led Iowa's largest high school classification in scoring as a junior and competed at the club level with All Iowa Attack, one of the Midwest's top AAU programs.
Off the court, Aguirre plans to major in Accounting at USF. He is the son of Salvador and Jennifer Aguirre.
"We are really excited to add Rio to the USF family," said Head Coach Chris Johnson. "He checked all the boxes of what we look for — great student, comes from a great program, and really fits our style of play. Rio can really shoot the ball and led the state of Iowa's largest class in scoring last year as a junior. We believe he has a really bright future in Sioux Falls."
