MARSHALL, MINN. – USF Men's Wrestling picked up their first NSIC dual match win in program history with a 23-16 win over Southwest Minnesota State. The Cougars move to 6-10 on the season and 1-7 in NSIC matchups.
Jaxton Packer opened the night falling to Carlo Arreola in a 1:56 pin at 125-pounds. Packer moves to 11-10 on the year, 2-6 in duals and 0-6 in NSIC matchups.
At 133-pounds, #11 Beau Klingensmith took on Chase Hanson opening the match with a quick takedown before ending the first period with a 3-1 lead. Following a quick reversal to open the second, Klingensmith closed the second period with a 5-1 lead before closing out the match with a 6-2 decision. Klingensmith advances to 13-2on the season, 10-1 in duals and 4-1 against NSIC opponents.
At 141-pounds, Jordon Oehme took on Dylan Louwagie falling in a 4-2 decision. Oehme moves to 12-9 on the year, 8-8 in dual settings and 2-6 in NSIC matchups.
Sir Brandon Watts took on Jacob Messner at 149-pounds. Watts scored first for a 3-1 first period lead before electing bottom to start the second and picking up an escape. Watts sealed the deal with a 4-2 decision to advance to 6-3 on the season 3-1 in dual settings and 3-0 against NSIC opponents.
Lincoln Fink fell to #20 Sean Howk at 157-pounds in a 2-0 decision. Lincoln moves to 12-16 on the year, 4-12 in duals and 0-6 in NSIC matchups.
At 165-pounds, Cooper Sanders took on Caden Young. Following a scoreless first period, Sanders picked up two minutes of ride time in the second period before picking up an escape point to open the third. Sanders closed the match with a 2-0 decision to advance to 16-12 on the year, 7-9 in dual settings and 2-6 against NSIC opponents.
Grant Moraski battled Elijah Sterner at 174-pounds. Moraski was able to score first off a deep double leg before letting Sterner up and tacking on another takedown along with 4-nearfall points to take a 10-1 lead at the end of one. Moraski was able to pick up an escape and a takedown in the second for a 14-5 lead at the end of the second period. Starting the third period on bottom, Moraski pulled out a late escape along with another takedown and nearfall points to secure the 6:36, 22-5 tech fall to give USF the dual lead and advance to 10-12 on the year, 6-6 in dual matchups and 1-5 in NSIC matches.
At 184-pounds, Daevon Vereen took on Mason Buss. Vereen gave up a takedown midway through the first period before landing a reversal and finishing the first down 4-2. Defering until the end of the second, Vereen gave up a reversal before gaining an escape to end the second down 6-3. Vereen was able to pull out an escape and takedown with seconds left in regulation before sticking Buss in overtime with a 7:08 pin to advance to 11-7 on the season,6-5 in dual settings and 2-3 against NSIC opponents.
Tim Lacina fell to Kody Marschner at 197-pounds in a 19-6 decision. Lacina moves to 1-7 on the season, 0-5 in duals and 0-5 against NSIC opponents.
Isaiah Laguna closed out the night against Evan Thompson at 285-pounds. Following a scoreless first period, Laguna was able to score first with an escape in the second followed by a takedown to end the second with a 4-1 lead. Laguna was able to secure the 5-2 decision to advance to 14-10 on the year, 7-8 in dual matchups and 3-4 against NSIC opponents.
In an extra match, Calvin Empkey defeated Adam Polansky in a 10-7 decision to advance to 3-5 on the year.

The Cougars will head down the street to take on #8/9 Augustana at the Elmen Center on February 13th for their final dual of the season.
