SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Cougar Softball (17-17, 5-7 NSIC) came up short in a tough NSIC doubleheader against No.13 Augustana (27-9, 9-3 NSIC), falling 0-3 in game one and 5-7 in game two. Despite the results, USF saw solid performances in the circle and the plate while continuing to compete against one of the nation's top-ranked teams.
GAME ONE: AUGUSTANA 3, SIOUX FALLS 0
In a tightly contested first game, USF was limited to one hit by Augustana's ace Grace Glanzer. Junior Maddi Duncan kept the Cougars in the game with a gritty complete-game performance, but the offense was unable to break through for the Coo.

GAME TWO: AUGUSTANA 7, SIOUX FALLS 5
The Cougars rallied to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning behind timely hitting and aggressive baserunning but were edged out by a late four-run surge from the Vikings. Despite a strong offensive showing, USF came up just short in game two of the doubleheader.

USF tied or led for much of the game, but Augustana's late push, including a solo homer and a two-run single, proved to be the difference. The Cougars played error-free defense and matched the Vikings in hits (7), showing poise against a nationally ranked opponent.
UP NEXT
The Cougars (17-17, 5-7 NSIC) will hit the road this weekend for key conference matchups at MSU Moorhead and Northern State. First pitch against the Dragons is scheduled for 12pm and 2pm on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled against Northern State at 12pm and 2pm on Sunday.
