BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls women's golf team has been selected fourth in the 2025 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced. The Cougars received 109 points and one first-place vote after returning much of their core from last year's lineup.
Minnesota State, the defending NSIC Champions, topped the poll with 131 points and nine first-place votes. Augustana followed in second with 122 points and one first-place vote, while Winona State placed third with 113 points. Wayne State rounded out the top five with 106 points and one first-place vote.
The Cougars first contest takes place September 15-16 at the Maverick/Golden Bear Fall Brawl at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wisconsin. The NSIC Women's Golf Championship will be played April 22-24 at Adams Pointe Golf Complex in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Preseason Golfer to Watch – Bryn Huber
Junior Bryn Huber has been named USF's preseason golfer to watch. Huber, a former high school state champion, has been a consistent contributor since her freshman season and is poised to step into a leadership role in 2025.
Last spring, Huber tied for 12th at the NSIC Championship after carding rounds of 82-81-76 (239). She also posted top-20 finishes at the Augustana Spring Invitational (T12, +17) and Wildcat Classic (T17, +18). Huber recorded a top-10 finish at the USF Invitational during the fall season and has proven to be a steady scorer across the lineup.
Head Coach Wade Merry praised her growth:
"Bryn is ready to step up and be the leader of our team. A former high school state champion, she stepped right into our lineup as a freshman and has shown great consistency throughout her two years at USF. She has had a great summer and knows she has to continue that play if we are to be successful this season."
Coach's Outlook
With five of the top six golfers returning, the Cougars enter the 2025 season with optimism. After a strong Fall 2024, USF is looking to establish greater consistency across the lineup.
"Five of our top six players from last year return, plus incoming freshman Gwen Lutunski had a really good spring and summer so I am expecting her to contribute right away," Merry said. "After a really good fall, we had a disappointing spring so I hope that will motivate all of us to get off to a really good start. We have shown that we have the talent to compete for a conference championship, we just need to be more consistent throughout the lineup."
