Cougars Earn Home Point in 1-1 Draw with Jamestown

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Jamestown Friday night at Bob Young Field, earning a point in NSIC play after 90 minutes of action.

The Cougars struck first in the opening minutes behind a goal from Martina Krattley, but Jamestown answered late in the first half. Sioux Falls controlled the match throughout the second half, generating multiple scoring opportunities and putting 14 shots toward goal, but the Cougars were unable to find a game-winner as the match ended level.

How It Happened


Sioux Falls came out attacking early, with Mara Nelson recording the first shot of the match just 1:33 into the contest. The Cougars then earned a corner kick in the seventh minute before breaking through moments later.

In the 8th minute, Martina Krattley found the back of the net to give Sioux Falls an early 1-0 advantage. Krattley continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half, forcing saves in the 27th minute and again shortly after halftime.

The Cougars continued to pressure the Jamestown defense following the opening goal. Abby Flanagan tested the opposing goalkeeper in the ninth minute, while Addison Van Zee put another shot on frame in the 33rd minute. Jamestown found the equalizer in the 39th minute, scoring off an assist to level the match at 1-1. The visitors added two more shots before halftime, but Morgan Jost made a save in the 42nd minute to keep the match even heading into the break.

Sioux Falls came out of halftime with renewed pressure, earning a corner kick just 20 seconds into the second half. Krattley followed with another shot on goal less than a minute later, but the opposing goalkeeper made the save.

The Cougars continued to control the attacking tempo throughout the second half. Van Zee forced another save in the 51st minute, while Chloe Wilson registered back-to-back attempts later in the half. Krattley continued to threaten, putting another shot on goal in the 57th and 64th minutes. Sioux Falls had one of its best chances to reclaim the lead in the 68th minute when the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick. Flanagan stepped to the spot, but the attempt was saved, keeping the match tied at 1-1.

The Cougars continued to push for a late winner. Flanagan forced another save in the 82nd minute before Sioux Falls earned back-to-back corner kicks shortly afterward. The Cougars remained aggressive in the final minutes, with Wilson and Van Zee each putting shots on goal in the 88th minute, but neither attempt found the back of the net. Sioux Falls finished the night with 20 shots, including 14 on goal, while holding Jamestown to six total shots and two on frame. Jost made one save for the Cougars, and USF earned five corner kicks in the match.
