Cougars Stay Hot With Wins Over Seton Hill and Northwood

Winter Haven, Fla. – The University of Sioux Falls softball team continued its strong play at The Spring Games on Thursday, defeating Seton Hill 7–2 before topping Northwood 8–2 in a game that ended early due to rain.

Behind dominant pitching and timely offense, the Cougars combined for 15 runs on 15 hits across the two contests to improve to 8–8 overall.

Game One: Sioux Falls 7, Seton Hill 2

Sioux Falls wasted no time getting on the board in the opener, capitalizing on early opportunities to build momentum.

After two runners reached base in the first inning, Hanna Raethz delivered a clutch double to left field that drove in two runs, giving the Cougars a quick 2–0 lead.

The Cougars broke the game open in the third inning. Addison Heule started the rally with an RBI single before Morgan Linstad followed with a two-run double to push the lead to 5–0. BrianneLawver added a sacrifice bunt that brought home another run, extending the advantage to 6–0.

Kyra Knudtson added the final run in the fourth inning, launching a solo home run to left center to make it 7–0.

Meanwhile, Maddi Duncan was dominant in the circle. The senior struck out 13 batters while limiting Seton Hill to just two hits across seven innings. The Griffins scored twice in the seventh inning, but Duncan quickly shut the door to secure the victory.

Game Two: Sioux Falls 8, Northwood 2 (game ended early due to rain)

The Cougars carried their offensive momentum into game two, using a big middle inning to pull away from Northwood before rain halted play early.

Sioux Falls struck first in the opening inning when Kyra Knudtson singled through the left side to score Charlie Pryor and give the Cougars an early lead. Northwood responded with a run in the bottom half to tie the game.

The turning point came in the fourth inning when Sioux Falls exploded for five runs. Meghan Jochimsen started the rally with an RBI single before defensive miscues allowed two more runs to cross the plate. Emma Kristof and Hanna Raethz each added RBI opportunities as the Cougars quickly extended the lead to 6–1.

Northwood pushed across an unearned run in the fifth inning, but Sioux Falls answered again in the sixth. Raethz delivered another RBI single before the Cougars added one more run on a Northwood error to make it 8–2.

Rain moved into the area shortly after, ending the game early with Sioux Falls securing the victory.
