MOORHEAD, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Soccer team earned a point on the road Friday afternoon, battling MSU Moorhead to a 1-1 draw at Nemzek Soccer Field.
Sioux Falls controlled much of the attacking play, outshooting the Dragons 24-13 while putting 11 attempts on goal. Chloe Wilson gave the Cougars a first-half lead before MSU Moorhead converted a penalty kick early in the second half to even the match. USF continued to press for the winner and nearly found it when Addison Van Zee struck the crossbar in the 81st minute. The draw moved the Cougars to 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-2 in NSIC play.

How It Happened
Sioux Falls established its attack early with Addison Van Zee generating three shots over the opening 16 minutes. The Cougars continued to create opportunities as the half progressed, with Lily Dahler forcing MSU Moorhead goalkeeper Emilia Kristensen into a save in the 26th minute before Maren Hayward followed with an attempt on goal in the 30th.
The pressure continued as Chloe Wilson tested Kristensen in the 32nd minute before Hayward put another shot on frame in the 37th. Less than two minutes later, the Cougars finally broke through when Wilson put Sioux Falls in front at the 37:57 mark, finishing a chance set up by Hayward and Dahler for her second goal of the season. The goal sent the Cougars into halftime with a 1-0 advantage after USF produced 10 shots over the opening 45 minutes.
MSU Moorhead found the equalizer early in the second half. Following a Cougar foul in the box, Sophie Thompson converted a penalty kick at 52:30 to level the match at 1-1.
Sioux Falls responded immediately and nearly regained the lead. Van Zee put a shot on goal at 53:58 before Wilson forced another save just 31 seconds later. Van Zee tested Kristensen again in the 56th minute as the Cougars continued to push forward.
USF maintained the pressure throughout the remainder of the half. Elise Secrest put an attempt on frame in the 68th minute before Martina Krattley forced another save in the 73rd. The Cougars' best chance to reclaim the lead came at 80:36 when Van Zee's attempt beat the goalkeeper but struck the crossbar.
The Cougars continued searching for the winner down the stretch, earning three corner kicks over the final nine minutes. Gaby Drought put another attempt on goal in the 87th minute, but Kristensen made the save as the two sides ultimately settled for the 1-1 draw.
