Cougars Fire 284 to Claim Second at The Jewel Invite

LAKE CITY, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls men's golf team used an impressive final-round performance to secure second place at The Jewel Invite, held Sept. 21-22 at The Jewel Golf Club. The Cougars finished the two-round tournament at 583 (+7), closing the event with a four-under-par 284 to climb the leaderboard in the 12-team field.

Charlie Hanson once again led the Cougars, finishing tied for sixth at even-par 144 after firing a one-under 71 in the final round. Ty Lenards joined Hanson near the top of the leaderboard with a T-12 finish, while Luke Ehlers and Jadan Ford each broke par Tuesday to help fuel USF's final-round surge.

How It Happened

Sioux Falls opened the tournament with a 299 (+11), led by Hanson's 73 (+1). Noah Teeter followed with a 74 (+2), while Lenards added a 75 (+3). Ford's 77 (+5) completed the four counting scores for the Cougars.

USF found another gear in the final round, shaving 15 strokes off its opening score to card a 284 (-4). Ehlers led the charge with a 70 (-2), while Hanson and Ford each shot 71 (-1). Lenards completed the scoring with an even-par 72 as all four counting Cougars finished at par or better. The strong closing round propelled Sioux Falls to second place overall.


Top Cougar Performers

Hanson continued his consistent start to the fall with rounds of 73 and 71 to finish tied for sixth at even par. His final-round 71 marked his third straight tournament with a round at or below par. The finish also gave Hanson his third consecutive top-10 performance to begin the fall after placing T-9 at The Mule and T-5 at the Maverick Fall Brawl.

Lenards made a strong move in the final round, following his opening 75 with an even-par 72 to finish tied for 12th at 147 (+3). Ehlers made the biggest jump among the Cougars, improving eight strokes from a first-round 78 to a two-under 70, the lowest USF round of the tournament. He finished tied for 16th at 148 (+4), alongside Ford, who rebounded from an opening 77 with a one-under 71.

The Cougars will head to St. Joseph, Missouri next week to compete in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational hosted by Missouri Western State before returning home to host the USF Invite at The Falls Golf Course in Larchwood, Iowa October 12-13.
