Eight University of Sioux Falls football players have been named to the College Fanz Sports Network 2008 NAIA All-America Football Team.
In addition, Sioux Falls defensive coordinator
Chuck Morrell was named the College Fanz Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Cougar defense shined all season long, leading the NAIA in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, pass defense, pass efficiency defense, opponent's first downs, third down conversions as well as shutting out their opponents seven times.
Morrell has been with the Cougars as a coach for 11 seasons along with playing for Sioux Falls from 1995-97.
USF junior quarterback
Lorenzo Brown (Bristol, Conn.) is a first-team All American along with offensive guard
TJ Wendt (Harrisburg, S.D.).
Brown and Wendt led the nation's sixth best rushing attack, as Sioux Falls averaged 235.6 yards on the ground in 2008. In his first season at quarterback, Brown threw for 2,132 yards and 25 touchdowns. Brown also ran for 14 touchdowns to lead the team.
Senior linebacker
Demetrius Washington (Detroit, Mich.) and junior safety
Trevor Holleman (New Holland, S.D.) were named to the defensive first team. Washington led a very balanced defense in tackles with 42.5 to go along with 4.5 sacks. Holleman was second in tackles with 42. 0. He also intercepted four passes (second on team) and blocked four punts.
Second-team honorees include senior left tackle
Shawn Flanagan (Pendleton, Ore.) and junior defensive lineman
Mike Hartley (Rapid City, S.D.).
Junior tailback
Ryan Lowmiller (Crystal Lake, Ill.) is an All American honorable mention selection for running backs. Lowmiller's 13 rushing touchdowns in 2008 led all GPAC running backs.
Transfer
Marlon Lobban (Pittsburg, Calif.) is an honorable mention selection at the linebacker position.
