USF, Lowmiller Run Through Dakota Wesleyan

Led by a career-high 197 yards rushing and five touchdowns from senior running back Ryan Lowmiller (Crystal Lake, Ill.), the University of Sioux Falls crushed Dakota Wesleyan University (2-6 overall, 2-6 Great Plains Athletic Conference) 59-7 Saturday afternoon at Bob Young Field.

It was a dominant effort on both sides of the ball, as the Cougars (8-0 overall, 7-0 GPAC) outgained the Tigers 649-75 in total yards, with DWU gaining 80 yards on a fourth quarter touchdown drive. USF out rushed the Tigers by a 468 to 1 yard effort.

Senior quarterback Lorenzo Brown (Bristol, Conn.) had a strong game both on the ground and through the air, as he threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 70 yards and one touchdown.

Lowmiller scored the first of his five touchdowns only 2:09 into the game, as his seven-yard burst off left tackle gave USF the early advantage.

Following a short punt, Brown threw the first of his two touchdown passes, as he found tight end Scott LeBrun (Dell Rapids, S.D.) from 42 yards away, making the score 14-0.

Brown would later find junior receiver Jon Ryan (Watertown, S.D.) from 36 yards out, giving the Cougars a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.

After a 67 yard touchdown run by Brown, Lowmiller took over, scoring on back to back runs of 62 and 87 yards to help give the Cougars a 56-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, the Cougars played all of their backups and added to their lead with a Braden Wieking (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 32-yard field goal, going against the wind.

DWU would get on the board late in the fourth quarter, as Josh Endres found the end zone from two yards out.

Cougar linebacker Dominic Studzinski (Fort Atkinson, Wisc.) had a superb performance, recording 6.5 tackles (four for loss), two sacks and had one fumble recovery. Senior linebacker Marlon Lobban (Pittsburg, Calif.) also had a nose for the ball, as he had 5.5 tackles, including 3.5 for a loss.

Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Orange City, Iowa, to face No. 12 Northwestern College (7-1 overall, 7-1 GPAC). Kickoff will be next Saturday, October 31, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
