The University of Sioux Falls football team (4-0) had a record setting day and recorded their first shut out of the season in a 80-0 throttle of Concordia (Neb.) (1-3) in Seward, Neb. Saturday afternoon.
The game did not start in favor of USF, as Concordia recovered a fumble inside the Cougar's 15 yard line. It would be the first of several great opportunities the Bulldogs had to put points on the board, but a tipped ball was snagged by senior Trevor Holleman (New Holland, S.D.).
With the ball in the hands of USF, a mix of run and pass moved the ball steadily down the field. Junior Jon Ryan (Watertown, S.D.) had a 27 yard reception, as senior running back Ryan Lowmiller (Crystal Lake, Ill.) totaled 33 rushing yards on the drive, capped with a five yard touchdown run.
The Cougar's second and third scores of the day where products of senior quarterback Lorenzo Brown (Bristol, Conn.). The first was a 33 yard pass to junior Alex Anderson (Sioux Falls, S.D.), who had six receptions for 96 yards on the afternoon. The second was an eight yard run into the end zone on a drive where Brown had 83 yards of total offense.
Leading 21-0 in the beginning of the second quarter, Holleman found a Concordia pass once again, this time returning the ball 30 yards for a score. Another Lowmiller rushing touchdown and junior Nick Ramstad's (Harrrisburg, S.D.) first touchdown reception of the year gave the Cougars a 42-0 halftime lead.
With freshman Lance Lawson (Norfolk, Neb.) and a heavy dosage of other second string players starting the third quarter, USF had an equally productive second half. On the first play from scrimmage sophomore Kristian Porter (Hawarden, Iowa) found a opening up the sideline and sprinted for a 50 yard gain. For his second carry of the day, Porter found 20 more yards and his first score of the season. Also finding the end zone for the first time this season was senior Ismael Small (Belle Glade, Fla.)
Freshman defensive back Michael Frericks (Crystal Lake, Ill.) found the end zone for the second time in consecutive weeks, returning an interception for 58 yards. The defense and special team units have now scored on six occasions this season.
Running back Mitch Dunbar added a pair of rushing touchdowns to complete USF's record setting 80 point performance.
School records set today are points in a game (80), total offensive yards (706) and point after touchdowns conversions (11). With the 11 PATs freshman kicker Braden Wieking (Sioux Falls, S.D.) broke his own school record and also added a 25 yard field goal.
For their next game USF will host Doane College (1-3) on Saturday, October 3 for homecoming.
