The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team fell to the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. today, 5-1. Wednesday's loss drops the Cougars to 5-9-1 on the season. The odd scheduling of a mid-week competition played a factor in today's game as USF only traveled 14, giving them just three options for substitutions.
The Marauders opened the game's scoring at the eight minute mark, when a cross was deflected off the goalie to Kayla Tardif for a score. U-Mary would go on to score two more goals during the first half. Tardif recorded her second goal of the game in 25th minute and Kaitlin Walsh picked up a goal at the 26th minute mark.
USF saw some life just before the break, when Halle Meadows found Sarah Stoebner who recorded the Cougars' only goal on the day.
U-Mary continued their attack in the second half, where they put two more goals in the net.
The Cougars were outshot by the Marauders, 16-5, but all five chances were on target.
Samantha Maybon received the start in net and stopped five U-Mary shots in 90 minutes of play.
USF will take a break until Oct.30, when they will make the trip up to Minot State University and look to avenge a 4-0 loss at home earlier this month (10/15).
