4/20/2026 5:30:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Sioux Falls Athletics Department has announced the hiring of Andy Janssen as the next head coach of the Cougar women's soccer program, following the resignation of head coach Joe DeMay after a record-breaking 2025 season.

Janssen Named Head Coach

Janssen now takes over a program with strong momentum, bringing more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to Sioux Falls, including the past nine seasons as associate head coach at South Dakota State University. A proven recruiter, developer, and tactician, Janssen has played a key role in building championship-caliber programs and developing student-athletes both on and off the field.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Janssen as the next leader of our program. He brings a championship track record of success at both the Division I and Division II levels, along with a wealth of proven experience that will keep momentum moving forward. As a hometown product with strong ties to local and regional soccer clubs, he understands the landscape and the potential of this program. The future remains bright for USF women's soccer and we can't wait for him to get started."

-Athletic Director, Jon Hart

Coaching Experience

At South Dakota State, Janssen helped guide the Jackrabbits to sustained success at the NCAA Division I level, helping compile an overall record of 121-33-28 during his tenure. The program captured two Summit League regular season titles, five tournament championships, and made five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Janssen served as recruiting coordinator while also overseeing positional development, including goalkeepers and attacking players. His responsibilities included scouting, training session planning, film breakdown, NCAA compliance, and academic oversight for student-athletes.
Prior to SDSU, Janssen spent seven seasons at Bemidji State, where he helped the Beavers to a 79-48-10 record and consistent success in the NSIC.

"I'm grateful to Jon Hart and the University for trusting me to lead this program. They were outstanding throughout the hiring process, and I'm excited that our vision and values align as we work to build this program into an NCAA Tournament contender. Joe, Hailee, Lulu, and Gabe have done a great job laying a strong foundation, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to build on that. Now it's time to get to work and prepare for the fall."

Program Success & Player Development

Throughout his coaching career, Janssen has helped develop numerous all-conference, all-region, and academic standouts. Across the NSIC and Summit League, his teams have produced 89 All-Conference honorees, 31 All-Region performers, 4 Academic All-Americans, 31 Academic All-District selections, and 74 Academic All-Conference honorees, along with 53 Conference Athletes of the Week and 16 Conference Athletes of the Year. His programs have also earned 18 Team Academic Awards and been led by three Coach of the Year honorees.

Local & Club Experience

In addition to his collegiate coaching background, Janssen has strong ties to the region through his work in club soccer, serving as Director of Coaching and Girls Director for Select FC/Brookings FC.

Playing & Education

Janssen was a standout collegiate player and holds a bachelor's degree from Northwestern College and a master's degree from Bemidji State University, along with an extensive list of advanced coaching licenses.

DeMay's Impact on the Program

DeMay departs USF after guiding the Cougars through one of the most historic seasons in program history. While rewriting the record book, his leadership helped elevate the program's competitiveness within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while continuing to build a strong culture centered on development, accountability, and success.
DeMay is leaving Sioux Falls to pursue an exciting full-time, professional opportunity with US Soccer in Atlanta, marking the next step in his coaching career at the national level.

"When US Soccer offered me a full-time coaching education role, it was an opportunity I'd only dreamed of when I started coaching. Offers like that don't come often, but it's still the hardest professional decision I've ever made because of the people I'm leaving behind.

The student-athletes in this program are exceptional. They've built something special here, and watching them compete, grow, and push each other to be better has been one of the great privileges of my career. Saying goodbye to them is what makes this so difficult.

I want to thank Jon Hart, Dr. Bradfield, and everyone at USF who trusted me to help reset the standard for Women's Soccer. It provided me the platform to work alongside remarkable young people who deserve every opportunity to succeed. I'm leaving confident that this program—and especially the players who drive it forward—will continue to accomplish great things."

-Head Coach, Joe DeMay

During the 2025 season, DeMay led the Cougars to a 6-10-2 overall record, including a 4-2-2 mark at home. The campaign will be remembered as one of the most prolific in program history, as USF set new program records for goals, points, and offensive production while also establishing defensive benchmarks in shutouts, goals allowed, and shots on goal allowed.
Individually, Addison Van Zee highlighted the season with multiple program records, while Morgan Jost, Lily Dahler, and Alivia Tindall each etched their names into the record book through standout performances.

"We are incredibly grateful for the impact Coach DeMay made on our program in such a short time. His knowledge, energy, and commitment elevated our program to new heights. What this team accomplished under his leadership this past season was truly special, and the momentum he helped build will benefit us for years to come. We're proud to support him as he embarks on this elite opportunity with US Soccer and we wish him continued success moving forward."

-Athletic Director, Jon Hart
