The
University
of Sioux Falls men's basketball team suffered a 99-79 loss at the
Concordia University Saturday in St.Paul, Minn. Saturday's matchup was
their first of two with Future NSIC foes this weekend, as the Cougars
visit Bemidji State Sunday.
USF
got on the board first when A.J. Holland found Keaton Moffitt for a
3-pointer to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead, but Concordia's Peter Olafeso
responded with
a 3-pointer making for the first of six ties in the first half.
Concordia would continue to find success beyond the arc as they knocked down a total of six 3-pointers in the first half.
After
falling behind by as much as six points, USF tied the game again at
29-29 when Derek Brown put another 3-pointer on the stat sheet with 6:27
left in the
half. The Golden Bears answered with an 11-3 run over the next three
minutes to mark their largest lead at 11 (43-32).
The Cougars went in at the break down 48-37.
Concordia
used their sharp 3-point shooting in the second half, where they went
8-15 to record a impressive 53% clip behind the arc en route to a 51 point period.
The
Golden Bears claimed their first 20 point advantage when Zach Towel
made his first of three second half threes to give Concordia a 65-45
lead with 14:18
left in the game.
USF fell behind by as much as 30 points following a Terez Van Pelt layup at the 4:44 mark in the second half.
The
Cougars played through the end and cut their lead to 19 with a minute
left in the game, but Concordia's 3-point shooting was too much for USF
to answer
as they suffered their third loss of the season Saturday, 99-79.
Although they gave up a season high 14 3-pointers the Cougars made a season high six three pointers of their own.
USF also surprisingly struggled at the free throw line, where they went 15-22 to finish 68% at the stripe today.
Brown led the Cougars in points and rebounds with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Skyler Bloch added 14 points and 3 rebounds.
USF, 1-3, stay in Minnesota to take on Bemidji State Sunday at 7 p.m.
