University
of Sioux Falls head football coach Jed Stugart and his staff has announced that
12 more student-athletes have signed letters of intent, post-signing day, to
continue their academic careers and join the USF football team this fall.
The
recent signings will add seven players to the Cougar defense, four to the
offense, and one to the special teams depth chart. Highlighted by four
student-athletes from the Mount Rushmore state, the group features standouts
from a total of five states including California, Iowa, Minnesota, and New
Jersey.
With
the addition of Thursday's student-athletes, the 2012 USF recruiting class
increases to 45.
USF enters
its first full season as a full fledge member of the NCAA DII and will compete
in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with the start of the 2012-13
academic calendar.
In their
final year of transition to the NCAA DII, USF finished the 2011 season 5-4 with
all four losses coming against ranked members of the NCAA DI FCS Division and NCAA
DII. The Cougars closed their season on a 15-13 loss at FCS No. 25 University
of North Dakota.
USF opens
the 2012 season in St. Cloud, Minn. where they face 2011 NSIC Co-Champions St.
Cloud State University Thursday, August 30.
