USF 11, Chadron State 1 (Five Innings)

The Cougars knocked off Chadron State 11-1 via the mercy rule in game one to snap the Cougars three-game losing streak.

Senior righthander Amanda Walters (3-2) posted her third win of the season, recording five strikeouts in five innings pitched. The Sioux Falls native scattered two hits with 2 walks on her way to claiming the victory. She also brought in one run for the Cougars as she advanced around the bases after being hit by a pitch at the plate.

After heading into the third inning with a 2-0 lead, the Cougars had an offensive explosion in the third inning, scoring nine runs. A Betsy Thomas double got the Cougars run started as she brought home Andrea Sheppard Kauwalu. Later in the inning, an Erin Scott double to leftfield, brought in two runs for the USF as Kellen Dewey and Brooke Stetzler both crossed the plate to give USF a 9-0 lead.

The Cougars pushed their lead to 11 runs when Shannon Daly and Betsy Thomas hit back-to-back singles to bring home runners for USF.

USF scored its 11 runs on 11 hits. In two at bats, Betsy Thomas recorded two hits, 2 RBI's and also scored two runs for USF while also being walked twice.

USF 9, Chadron State 7

The Cougars offensive prowess continued early in the second game as a five-run first inning spurred the Cougars to a 9-7 victory over the Eagles.

In her first start of the season, Bailey Bouman (1-0) recorded the win, pitching six innings while also recording five strikeouts.

Shannon Daly got the Cougars scoring spurt started in the game as her double brought home Erin Scott to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

Later in the inning, Brittany Hoffman brought home two USF runners when she hit a single that gave USF a 5-0 lead. Hoffman finished the day going 1-of-3 at the plate while bringing in two RBI's.

Three straight walks by the Eagles Jessica Eatmon in the top of the third put the Cougars in prime position to extend their lead. USF wasted no time in using that to their advantage as a Kellen Dewey single brought home Bailey Bouman and Andrea Sheppard Kauwalu to push the Cougars lead to six runs. Dewey finished the game going 2-of-4 at the plate while bringing in three RBI's and scoring two runs.

The Eagles made a push in the bottom of the sixth as they scored two runs on the Cougars, but in the top of the ninth, Bailey Bouman hit her first home run of the season to keep Chadron State at bay.

The Cougars scored their nine runs on six hits. USF also left four runners on base and committed no errors in the victory.

USF will travel to Spearfish, S.D. to take on Black Hills State on Thursday.
