BROOKINGS, S.D. – After registering eight top-10 time in program history on Friday night, including a school record, four University of Sioux Falls Track & Field runners put some records on watch as each added a USF all-time top-10 time at the Jim Emmerich/Alumni Invitational on Saturday. On Friday night,
Trey Furgeson broke the USF men's 600-meter record and all four USF runners were within seconds of joining their teammate as record holders on Saturday.
Jase Kraft,
Mason Phillips and
Billy Beseman were each within two seconds of breaking the USF indoor men's mile record, which Phillips currently holds at 4:12.63. Kraft was less than a half second behind his teammate's record mark, clocking a 4:13.10 that earned him second place at the meet and No. 3 on the USF all-time performance list, just behind Billy Brockmueller. Phillips was right behind his teammate and finished less than a second slower than his record with a 4:13.55 on Saturday, placing third overall. Beseman, who has had an incredibly impressive start to the season in the mid-distance races, placed fourth overall at the meet and now owns the No. 4 time in USF history with a 4:14.20 on Saturday. Despite falling just short of the NCAA provisional qualifying standard, all three runners rank in the top 20 of Division II with their times this weekend.
Not to be outdone,
Steven Brown put his name in the USF record books with the third-fastest time in the men's 3,000-meter run on Saturday. With a personal-best time, Brown clocked an 8:31.37, four second better than his previous top mark and the No. 4 time in USF history and jut six seconds from the program record.
The Cougars now return to their home away from home during the indoor track & field season, heading to Mankato, Minn. for the MSU Multi & Open on Jan. 27-28.
