GRAND FORKS – The University of Sioux Falls Tennis Team (5-3, 3-3 NSIC) fell to Bemidji State (7-3, 4-3 NSIC), 8-1, in NSIC action on Sunday morning.
The Cougars were defeated 5-1 in singles play and in all three doubles matches, although matches were close throughout. At #2 doubles,
Abby Seigenthaler and
Tianna Duda lost a 9-7 decision while
Kara Bunkers and Kylie Simon were defeated just 8-5 at #1 doubles.
Bunkers rallied to win USF's only singles match at #3. After falling 6-1 in the opening set, the senior from Sioux Falls tied the match with a 6-4 decision and won the third set, 11-9. While Seigenthaler lost in three sets, she too battled throughout the match, losing in the third set 10-3. At #2 singles,
Tianna Duda was bettered in the third set, 10-6 after splitting the first two matches.
"I thought we played a very competitive match today but just lost some crucial points," said USF head coach
Kevin Grebin. "Still, our team continues to improve with a firm commitment to hard work," he said.
USF will host DI Iowa State on Saturday, March 4 at 6 p.m. at the Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls.
