SIOUX FALLS – With a four-match lead entering the final day of the Second Annual Cougar Cup, University of Sioux Falls defeated crosstown rival Augustana by splitting the eight singles matches. USF won three of the four matches in both Saturday sessions for a 6-2 lead and with four singles victories on Sunday, the Cougars took home the Cougar Cup by a 10-6 margin.
 
Playing head-to-head for the final eight matches, USF needed just 2.5 points to win the match. In the first group, seniors Ben Loosbrock and Derek Dillon wasted no time bringing their team within a half point of the team title. Loosbrock defeated his opponent 6 & 4, holding a six-hole lead with four holes remaining. Dillon was equally impressive, taking his match 4 & 3.
 
The team race tightened up as Augustana won the next three matches. In one of the more anticipated matches, Jonathon Cooney, who finished T10 at the NSIC Championship, squared off with NSIC individual medalist Parker Klitzke. After jockeying back and forth with the lead, Klitzke won the 17th hole then halved No. 18 to give Augustana their first point of the day. A 20-plus foot putt by AU's Carter Kranz on the 18th hole handed Brenden Bassing a defeat by one hole and Blake Berry lost 5 & 4 to bring the Vikings within three matches of the Cougars, 8-5.
 
Grant Kolb's bunker save for par on No. 18 provided the clinching victory for USF's team win, taking down his opponent 1 up. Brett Korn added USF's final individual victory, winning 1 up over his Augustana opponent, capped off by nearly sinking a 40-plus foot putt on No. 18. Bren Prisbe suffered a 2 up defeat in the final match of the day.
