Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Sioux Falls Women's Tennis Team (8-4) dropped a 9-0 nonconference decision to University of Charleston on Wednesday, March 14.
With the loss, the Cougars dropped to 1-2 on the road trip, 3-2 in nonconference match ups and 8-4 overall.
"I thought we battled and played some really good tennis," said USF head coach
Kevin Grebin. "Chloe (Jefferies) and Joelle (Thorfinnson) lost tough tiebreakers. We showed real grit all night even when we lost some tough points," he said.
At No. 1 singles,
Chloe Jefferies dropped to 9-3 overall after losing the tie-breaker, 10-7. Jefferies opened with a 6-1 first set victory before falling to Kristine Gegeshidze, 7-5, in the second set and then the tie-breaker. At No. 5 singles,
Joelle Thorfinnson, who is now 8-4 on the season, also had a battle with Alize Uyttenhove of Charleston before falling in the tie breaker, 10-8. Thorfinnson lost the first set, 6-2, but rebounded with a 6-4 verdict in the second set. No. 2

In doubles, USF rotated the No. 1 and No. 2 singles squads. Jefferies and Thorfinnson lost a close match to Gegeshidze and Katie Swann of Charleston, 8-5.
Lexi Miller and
Megan Quandt paired at No. 2 and lost 8-3 to Elise Edwards and Silvana Slusarciuc. At No. 3 doubles,
Kelsie Sanders and
Rachel Klatt also battled before falling to Bridget Dillon and Uyttenhove, 8-5 to fall to 5-4 on the season.
The Cougars will wrap up their spring break trip on March 16 with a match against Bloomsburg at 10:30 a.m. in Orlando, Fla.
