USF records consecutive wins in league play for the first time
USF won two matches last weekend by the same 2-1 score, earning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference decisions over Northern State and MSU Moorhead. USF registered a 2-1 win over MSUM as freshman Aundria Vargas and senior Jackie Montes scored goals in the 2-1 win. Montes, who played in her first game in over a year, tallied the winning goal as she scored the game-winning goal with a header off a crossing pass from Lindsey Power at 81:20. Again NSU, Lindsey Power had two goals to lead USF pass NSU on Sunday.

USF earned consecutive league wins for the first time as members of the NSIC and stand ninth in the league standings at 2-3 with a 3-5 overall mark. The two straight victories is also USF's first two-match winning streak since Nov. 4-6, 2011 when USF recorded a 4-1 win over Minot State and also defeated the University of Winnipeg, 1-0.

USF had 30 total shots against NSU, 20 of those came in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Power led the team with seven shots, four of which were on goal and two found the back of the net. Junior Lauren LaFavre added five shots, two of which were on goal.

Series History
Bemidji State- BSU leads series 6-0-0
Sioux Falls is looking to earn their first decision against Bemidji State, who own a 6-0 record against the Cougars. The Beavers hold an 8-to-1 score differential against the Cougars following a 2-0 setback at home last season. In 2016, the Cougars lost a 1-0 decision which was one of two, one-score games, including a 2-1 loss in the first ever meeting between the programs in 2012. At home, USF is 0-3 against the Beavers, dropping the 2-1 decision in 2012 and a 6-0 loss in 2013. Away, the Cougars are also 0-3 against BSU.

                Minnesota Crookston- UMC leads 3-2-1
USF looks to earn a win for the third straight season against Minnesota Crookston, who own a 3-2-1 record against the Cougars. Two seasons ago in 2016, USF earned a point with a scoreless draw at Minnesota Crookston. Morgan Perkins preserved the match with six saves while Alexandria Scott had a pair of shots on goal. Last year, the Cougars won a thrilling 1-0 overtime match at home with the lone goal coming off the foot of Danielle McClure. USF out-shot UMC 34-to-3 in the contest. USF's other win in the series was 1-0 road victory in 2013 when Ciara Howerton scored the game-winner just before halftime. In road matchups, the Cougars are 2-0-1 against UMC.

USF continues to play aggressively
Throughout the season, the Cougars have shown the ability to take their chances and pressure the opposing defenses with a high volume of shots. USF has 121 total shots on the year, which ranks third in the NSIC only behind No. 16 Minnesota State (148) and Augustana (141).  Junior midfielder Lauren LaFavre leads the USF attack with 26 total attacks on the year. Power has 20 shots, two goals, and three assists. Freshman standout Aundria Vargas has stepped into the Cougar offense with force, recording 19 total shots and two goals.

USF picked 12th in preseason poll
The University of Sioux Falls Soccer Team, which is coming off its best season at NCAA DII, has been picked to finish in a tie for 12th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), according to the 2018 NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll, which was released August 9. USF soccer had a program-DII-best 5-9-4 overall mark, and was 4-7-4 in the NSIC for 10th in the league in 2017. In the preseason poll, USF received 69 points and sits tied with Wayne State for 12th in the poll. The Cougars currently sit tied for 9th in the conference standings after eight games.

Head Coach Brittany Domino leads USF
Brittany Domino enters her fourth season as the head coach of the USF Soccer program in 2018. She has led USF to a 3-5 record, including 2-3 in league play. For the first time in the DII era, she has directed USF to consecutive league wins (MSUM, Northern State, Sept. 14 & 16). During Domino's tenure, the Cougars have built up their defense and added offseason signings to bolster their offensive attack, which set Division II program records for goals, points, assists and nearly every statistical category. In her third season at the helm of the USF Women's Soccer program, Domino reached unprecedented territory for USF in their Division II era, finishing with a 5-9-4 overall record, 4-7-4 in the NSIC during the 2017 campaign. The Cougars finished with program-bests of five wins overall, four wins in NSIC games, and 16 total points in league play, tying them for 10th place, their highest finish in six seasons as members of the league. In 2017, Sioux Falls again improved on both sides of the ball, breaking their previous Division II USF program records in both goals scored and goals allowed. The Cougar coaching staff also includes Assistant Coach Kyle Halfpop who has been with USF for two years, and Gabe Wortman.
