SIOUX FALLS – University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball guard
Trevon Evans, who averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 2.0 assists in home wins over Wayne State and city rival Augustana on Jan. 4-5, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men's Basketball South Division Player of the Week, according to an announcement today by the league office.
Evans, who was named the NSIC Preseason South Division Player of the Year, earned his first NSIC South Player of the Week this year and the fourth of his career.
A senior from Wichita, Kan., Evans made plays and shots to ensure USF wins against two teams which were tied for the lead in the NSIC South when they faced the Cougars.
In a 77-71 win over Wayne State on Friday (Jan. 4), Evans scored 16 points, including six in the final 31 seconds, with four rebounds, three assists and a steal. He had a steal and finished the play with a dunk and a lead-changing score with 31 seconds left against the Wildcats. Then, he made four straight free throws to give USF a win over WSC, which entered the game as a co-leader in the NSIC South.
Against city rival Augustana, Evans scored 33 points with six rebounds, three treys, two steals and an assist in a 77-73 decision over the Vikings. It helped USF defeat the Vikings for a third straight time. Evans also helped USF end Augustana's seven-game winning streak and knock them out of a tie for first in the NSIC South. With USF up 69-68 at the 1:36 mark, he converted a driving lay-up. After the Vikings closed to within 75-73, he hit two free throws to ice the game with four seconds left. In both games, he scored six points in the final two minutes.
Through 14 games, Evans has nine 20-point games this season. With 33 points against AU, Evans now has seven career games of 30 points or more. He has registered 14 consecutive double-digit scoring games this year, 18 straight dating to last year and 40 in his career. He also increased his career scoring total to 930 in 43 career games at USF.
Evans and his teammates will head to Minnesota State on Jan. 11 and Concordia-St. Paul on Jan. 12.
