SIOUX FALLS – The No. 14 University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team completed a dominating weekend in the pool with three dual wins at the Quad Dual held at the Midco Aquatic Center. In total, USF recorded 13 wins out of 20 events and had three NCAA DII "B" cuts. Those "B" cuts included
Jenna Krahn 50 free leading off 200 free relay,
Chantal Kasch in the 200 breast on Friday and
Ella Johnson in the 200 fly on Saturday.
USF, which won six events on Friday and seven more on Saturday, ran its dual record to 6-0 after victories over Minnesota State, 209-151; MSU Moorhead, 264-88; and Augustana, 250-84.
Among several leaders this weekend, junior
Jenna Krahn had numerous big performances and had four wins including three on relay squads as well as an individual title. She was second in the 50 free today in 24.16 as she led a continent of four USF placers in the top eight. Also for USF, freshman
Ursula Demarquet was fifth in 24.30 while
Giulia Marcon was seventh in 24.73 and
Tori Bailey, eighth in 24.83. Krahn also helped the 200 medley relay to a second place finish in 1:47.12. Aside from Krahn, USF team members included
Elizabeth Spaans,
Ella Johnson and
Chantal Kasch. USF also finished fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.66 with a squad of
Julia Zanto,
Abigail Ford,
Valerie Childs and Marcon.
"I am unbelievably proud of our Cougar swim team this weekend," said second-year USF Head Coach
Chris Hamstra. "To come out of this meet with dual meet wins against three conference opponents is amazing. It was especially pleasing with the team earning their first win in program history against Minnesota State which is a well-established program with a rich history. We will continue to work hard in the pool and weight room to see dividends in competition," he said.
Johnson had a standout day on Saturday with her "B" cut in the 200 fly in 2:02.83. She led three placers in the top four as freshman
Makenzy Kennedy was second in 2:12.38 while
Valerie Childs was fourth in 2:14.45. Johnson was also a winner in the 200 free in 1:55.52 with Marcon taking second in 1:55.65. She was part of a third win a USF took a 400 free relay in 3:34.11. Johnson, Marcon, Spaans and Krahn swam USF to the victory. USF was also third in the relay in 3:37.06 with a team of Childs, Demarquet, Eagleton and Ford.
Lizzy Spaans also had two individual wins along with her work on the relays. She won the 100 IM in 59.21 and captured the 100 back in 57.95. Also in the 100 IM, Demarqet was fourth in 1:00.59 and Kasch, eighth in 1:02.53. In the 100 back, Spaans led a contingent of four swimmers in the top six .
Gigi Bario was third in 1:02.14 while Krahn was fifth in 1:01.03 and Zanto sixth in 1:01.37.
USF also had individual wins from Kennedy in the 400 IM in 4:39.44 while Kasch picked up a victory in the 100 breast in 1:05.04.
Next on the schedule, USF will host DI Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m., at the Midco Aquatic Center.
