SIOUX FALLS— As another week of "crossover" season continues, the University of Sioux Falls Athletics Department would like to take a moment to send our thanks and respect to a valued member of the staff.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) hosts an annual event nationwide on the week of Nov. 6-12. This week is considered Member Recognition Week, and utilizes the hashtag of #ThankYourSID to bring recognition to what Sports Information Directors do on a daily basis.
Since being named the Director of Athletic Communications in August 2014, Dan Genzler has been a crucial part of the USF Athletic Department, with one huge feat for Genzler being his vital role in coordinating the athletic website transition to Sidearm Sports in 2016, giving usfcougars.com its more modern and inviting look that it has today.
Prior to his time at USF, Genzler had spent 22 years in Vermillion as the Sports Information Director at the University of South Dakota.
The USF Athletic Department had much to say about Genzler's work ethics, his attitude, and his invaluable contributions to the Cougar Pride.
Pam Gohl, Director of Athletics
"Dan Genzler has an immense passion for USF Athletics, and his work is there to show it. Dan works tirelessly for USF Athletics, not only doing his everyday in- and out-of-season duties such as his excellent writing skills in all previews, features, recaps, and releases he puts on usfcougars.com, but spending hours upon hours building up the historical record of athletics at the University of Sioux Falls/Sioux Falls College."
Micha Thompson, Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance
"In my short time here at USF, I am so impressed by Dan's passion for USF. He puts countless hours into promoting our student-athletes and helping to share their story. USF is a special place because of the people here, and Dan is a big part of that."
Chris Johnson, Men's Basketball Head Coach
"Dan is an invaluable part of our athletic department. He helps each program in so many ways. We are lucky to have him, and I value our friendship very much."
Travis Traphagen, Women's Basketball Head Coach
"I want to thank Dan for all his hard work. With a small staff and an unlimited work load, I appreciate his hard work to help spread the word of our athletic department."
Jon Anderson, Football Head Coach
"Thank you, Dan for all that you do and professional way you do it! You are a great advocate for all Student-Athletes at USF when you tell their stories."
Joel McCartney, Volleyball Head Coach
"I am so appreciative for the work that Dan does for our programs, but even more impressed with how much he cares about our student-athletes. It is clear to me that his priority is always about advocating for them in everything he does. That is the greatest value one could hope to have in someone in an administrative support role."
Shannon Pivovar, Softball Head Coach
"Dan Genzler leads one of the most thankless, yet vital departments within our athletic department. His willingness to get things done for the student-athletes and showcase each individual sport while boosting the overall USF family is something that sometimes we take for granted, but are so lucky to have. We wouldn't have the coverage or exposure without the hours he puts in behind the scenes and our USF softball team is so thankful he is a part of the USF family."
Chris Hamstra, Head Swimming Coach
"What I love about Dan is that he dreams big. He has all the ideas to get more content about our program out and then finds a way to get it done! Great SID, great to work with and an amazing human being."
Andy Chase, Sports Information Graduate Assistant
"When I first came to Sioux Falls in July, I had already had three years of experience as a student assistant at my undergraduate institution. Since July, I feel as though I have gotten so many more opportunities brought to me in my four months as a Cougar, and Dan is a huge factor in that. I could not imagine having such a pristine opportunity as I am being the GA for Dan. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, Dan."
