BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Redshirt sophomore
Chloe Jefferies of the University of Sioux Falls Women's Tennis Team has been named to the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team for the second straight season, according to an announcement Tuesday, April 25 by the league office. Jefferies becomes USF's first-ever two-time first-team All-NSIC selection.
Jefferies, a criminal justice major, had another dominant season at No. 1 singles for USF as she finished 10-5 with a 6-3 league record. Jefferies, who was named NSIC Freshman of the Year in 2018 at USF's Player to Watch this fall, has a 24-8 career record and stands 16-4 in league play through two seasons. She was one of six players from the NSIC named to the first team.
Originally of Olive, Iowa, Jefferies helped USF reach the NSIC Tournament semifinals for the second time in school history. In the quarterfinals, she led No. 6 seeded USF to a 4-2 win over No. 3 Winona State before falling to No. 2 seed MSU Moorhead in the semifinals.
In the win over WSU at the tournament, she had a straight set win over Winona State's Beth Murman at 6-3 and 7-5 and teamed
Joelle Thorfinnson to win No. 1 doubles in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6). Over her last 10 matches, she won eight and finished with eight straight set wins.
Led by her play at No. 1 singles, USF, directed by head coach
Kevin Grebin, finished the season at 8-9 with a 6-5 NSIC mark. Fifteen times in her career, she has won a match when her opponent won less than three combined games in the match.
Jefferies selection means that USF Tennis has had eight All-NSIC selections since moving to DII in 2012. She is the first player to earn first-team honors in back-to-back seasons. Alison Kauss was named second team All-NSIC in singles in 2016. Kauss and Emily Erickson were second-team All-NSIC selections in doubles in 2016. In 2015, Joey Bosch and Kauss were named honorable mention all-league singles honorees. Bosch and Stacey Beard were honorable mention all-league honorees in doubles in 2015.
