Kevin Grebin has announced the signing of Ella Schmidt of Eden Prairie, Minn., who will continue her academic and athletic career at USF. The NCAA recruiting signing period opened on Wednesday, Nov. 11, which allowed student-athletes to sign with their respective programs.
"Ella Schmidt is a talented student-athlete who has excelled in tennis," said Grebin, who team was 8-5 in 2020 before CoVID-19 ended the season. "She will a great addition and will contribute to the success of our team. We look forward to Ella joining our team," he said.
The daughter of Gary and Heidi Schmidt, she attended Southwest Christian HS where she played number one singles and doubles in tennis and was an infielder/outfielder in softball.
In tennis, she had a 34-28 overall record, including a 3-4 mark in 2020. During the 2019 season, she was 15-6. As a sophomore, Schmidt finished 7-9 and was 9-9 in 2017.
A standout both in singles and doubles, she was named honorable mention All-Minnesota River Conference as a senior at number one singles. As a freshman she was named to the All-Minnesota River Conference Team at number one doubles. In softball, Schmidt was named to the All-Minnesota River Conference Team as a sophomore pitcher. At Southwest Christian HS, she was involved in the Thespian Society for four years.
Schmidt, who has three siblings – Haley, Jesse and Max – will major in radiology at USF.
