USF Volleyball signs Grace Hanel and Brynn Askew to 2021 class

SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Program has announced the signing of student-athletes Brynn Askew of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Grace Hanel of Racine, Wisc. Both Askew and Hanel will continue their academic and athletic careers at USF in the fall of 2021.

Grace Hanel, 6-0, Outside Hitter, Racine, Wisc./Oak Creek HS
Hanel has been named First Team All-Southeast Conference in 2020 and the Oak Creek HS Offensive Player of the Year. A team captain, she played three years on varsity but had her 2020 season shortened due to CoVID-19. At Oak Creek HS, she recorded 494 kills with a 31.4 hitting percentage, 206 digs, 38 aces and 48 blocks. She has been active in high school, including the National Honors Society and being part of the Southeast Conference Leadership Conference. The daughter of Jill Hanel and Marcus Hanel, she has a sister, Ashley, and two brothers, Nathan and Levi. She volunteers to help at homeless shelters. She will major in business administration at USF.

Brynn Askew, 5-9, Libero, Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman HS
A libero for Sioux Falls O'Gorman High School, Askew has helped the program attain significant success. She was part of an O'Gorman squad that was runner-up (26-5)  the South Dakota State Volleyball Championships in 2019 and stand 22-0 in 2020. The Knights are currently ranked 11th in the AVCA/USA Today National High School rankings as they seek a return to the state tournament. In her career, Askew has totaled 175 sets, 589 digs, 77 aces and 202 assists. As a senior, she has appeared in 69 sets with 294 digs (14.3 per set), 83 assists and 35 service aces. The daughter of Jason and Tracey Askew, she is a member of the National Honor Society and Member of SADD/TATU. She also has a brother, Kellen.
