INDIANAPOLIS – With public health as the top priority, the NCAA President and the NCAA Board of Governors has announced a decision effective immediately to cancel the NCAA Division I and II Basketball championships as well as all winter and spring championships.
According to the NCAA statement, the decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health situation, and the ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, as well as "the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during his academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities."
This decision includes cancellation of the NCAA DII Central Region Championship set to be played on Friday, March 13. The NCAA DII Track and Field Championships has been canceled as have the NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships. USF teams will return to Sioux Falls as soon as possible.
USF Athletics will announce more about this fluid situation concerning sports scheduling in the coming days.
