SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Sioux Falls Head Tennis Coach Kevin
Grebin has announced the signing of standout Danielle Thorfinnson of Glenwood, Minn., who will continue her academic and athletic career with USF. She joins a 2020 recruiting class of Talia
Janos of Riverview, Fla., and
Rhianna Cantine of
Milbank, S.D., who signed with USF on March 5.
"We are excited about the addition of Danielle (Thorfinnson)," said
Grebin. "She has an exceptional skill set and will fit in nicely with our team and the USF community," he said.
Thorfinnson joins her sister, Joelle, on the USF Tennis Team. She starred at Minnewaska Area HS in Glenwood, Minn., where she was a six-year varsity letter award recipient and set a school record for most career tennis wins at 168. She accumulated a record of 85-10 at No. 1 singles over her final three seasons. A five-time conference champion, she also captured a pair of sectional championships in singles. In addition, she was a two-time sectional champion in doubles.
During her career, she has qualified and competed at the state tournament each year from seventh through 12th grade. She finished third in doubles with her sister (Joelle) and won a state consolation championship in singles. Thorfinnson guided her team to a 2019 Minnesota consolation championships. Ranked No. 5 in Minnesota Class A in 2019, she earned the Minnesota Tennis Coaches Association Academic All State Award and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
Thorfinnson joins a USF Tennis Team that recently finished the 2019-20 season with an 8-5 record but the season ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. USF, which finished 4-2 in league play, recorded its third winning season in five years.
