USF Men's Basketball moves up a spot to No. 19 in the NABC Poll

SIOUX FALLS – After a 4-0 start, the University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball Team has moved up another spot to No. 19 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA DII poll released today (Jan. 26). 

Three weeks ago, USF moved back into the top 25 after two home wins over then (RV) Upper Iowa, 68-55, and 87-76. On Jan. 19, USF moved up to No. 20 and now to No. 19. This season, the Cougars have been ranked in six of the seven polls with No. 19 its highest mark. The Cougars received 111 points this week or a jump 23 points from 88 a week ago. USF will travel to face Minnesota State (6-2, 5-1 NSIC South, 2nd) on Friday, Jan. 29 and 30 at the Taylor Center of the Bresnan Arena in Mankato, Minn.

It is the seventh national ranking in 2020-21 for USF which was ranked 19th earlier this fall by The Basketball Times, a monthly print publication which has covered college basketball for more than 40 years. In the NABC Preseason Poll, the Cougars were ranked 23rd with 78 points. In the first poll of the regular season, USF, which will play its first game against U-Mary at home on Jan. 2, earned 54 points and was 25th. Then, the Cougars moved to 24th, although with a few less vote points (50). In the fourth poll on Jan. 5, USF fell out of the top 25 but was 26 in the previous poll, receiving 23 points. Two weeks ago, they were No. 25, then No. 20 on Jan. 19 and now to No. 19.now up to No. 20

Directed by NSIC Coach of the Year Chris Johnson (237-166 overall –  USF career wins leader with 221-151 mark), the Cougars stand 4-0, including 2-0 in the NSIC South and in first place.

Colorado School of Mines, which is 8-0, is ranked No. 1 for the third straight week. Northern State (6-0) is second and Northwest Missouri (8-1), third. CSM received 14 first place votes and Northwest Missouri State, two.
