The Cougars are (3-9-3, 3-6-3) on the season under the direction of seventh-year coach
Brittany Domino. Despite some close contests not going the Cougars way, they came away with a 1-1 record this past weekend in northern Minnesota. A victory this past Friday against Crookston and a loss to Bemidji State. The Cougars were home the previous weekend, picking up points in both games in a win over Minnesota-Moorhead and a tie against Northern State. The previous home stand, they went 0-1-1 against Augustana and then picked up a tie against Wayne State. The prior weekend, they returned from a road trip picking up a point, tying UMD and then losing to SCSU. The Cougars began their season facing off against three MIAA conference opponents in Northwest Missouri State, Fort Hays State, and most recently against Rogers State (Okla.) in a match played in Omaha, Nebraska. They began conference play and have played deep into matches while finding their identity.
Grace Held and
Aundria Vargas lead the team in shots (18), followed by
Kassidy Graber (9), and Julia Kreutner (7). On the defensive end, the goalkeepers have 142 saves from
Alexis Wemhoff (90),
Caroline Titze (39) and
Holli Knudsen (30).
"I am really happy with our teams response in the second half. They settled in and started to solve some of the problems in the run of play. Our defense has done a great job these last three games and helped allow us to continue to push forward and find more attacks in games then we had been earlier in the year. We have a big test this weekend but we are looking forward to the challenge", said Head Coach
Brittany Domino.
The Cougars have split home/road matches this weekend, starting off hosting Mankato on Friday Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. and then head on the road to St. Paul, Minnesota to face off against CSP at 1 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 31.
