Kasch - Spaans - NCAA DII Championships 2021

Kasch finishes 17th in 100 breast and Spaans, 18th, in 100 back at the NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- All-Americans Chantal Kasch and Elizabeth Spaans of the University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team registered top-20 finishes but did not advance to the finals at the NCAA DII Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday morning at the Birmingham Crossplex.

A junior from Brandon, S.D., Spaans had a clocking of 56.51 in the 100 back and finished 18th at the NCAA DII Championships. Spaans won two individual titles at the NSIC Championships and was part of aa winning 400 medley relay and a second-place 800 free relay at the NSIC Championships.

A senior All-American from Stade Germany, Kasch was 17th in the 100 breast with a clocking of 1:04.00, which was just off her 1:03.42 seed time. Kasch will compete in the 200 breast prelims at 10 am on Saturday with finals at 6 pm. Earlier this year, Kasch defended in titles in winning both the 100 and 200 breast events at the NSIC Championships and finished her career with eighth NSIC titles (individual or relay).

Jenna Krahn, who was 17th in the 50 free with a clocking of 23.62 in prelims on Wednesday (March 17). will compete in the 100 free on Saturday at 10 am (prelims) with finals set for 6 pm. This season, Krahn, a senior exercise science major from Johnston, Iowa, has won 17 titles including 12 as an individual. In the 50 free, Krahn had a personal best of 23.33 in 2019-20 and then recorded a 23.45 in winning her first NSIC 50 free title at the NSIC Championship.

At the NSIC Championships, the Cougars, who had a program best 12 dual wins this season,, finished third for a fourth straight year. The Cougars, which had seven individuals or relays crowned champions at the 2021 NSIC Championships, had 10 provisional marks and 36 All-NSIC performers.
