LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 19, 2021) – For the 13th year in a row, the University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Team has earned a spot on the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award recipient list.
To be eligible to receive the Team Academic Award from the USMC/
AVCA, which has been announced every year since 1992-93, teams must maintain a 3.30 grade point average. While USF was among the teams that had their 2020 season canceled due to CoVID-19, USF continued to perform in the classroom.

Dan Mathews, USF Volleyball, which compiled a team GPA of 3.61, has consistently been honored for its academic success.
Mathews spoke highly of USF, acknowledging their dedication and commitment to academic success while excelling in competition.
"I am so impressed and proud of the quality of students we have in our program," said Mathews. " The consistency of this standard of excellence shows that our student-athletes are focused and strive every day to excel in competition and exhibiting leadership in the classroom," he said.
In USF's last year of competition, the Cougars finished 17-11 overall and earned national rankings for the first time. The Cougars will return 12 letter winners and five starters when the 2021 season opens Sept. 3 against Grand Valley State in Golden, Colo.
